Join us for a Chattooga River "Three-fer" Hike!

Sign Up Now!Join ForestWatch volunteers Joe Gatins and Brooks Franklin for a special series of hikes along the Upper Chattooga River this March! All
three hikes include stops at several splendid cascades and waterfalls, and together include those parts of the
Upper Chattooga River under consideration by the U.S. Forest Service for
possible permitted boating. Please see hike descriptions below for meeting places, times, and difficulty. Dates of outings: Saturday, March 13th, 20th, and 27th March 13: Burrell's
Ford to Russell Bridge: A 12-mile, moderate hike along the Chattooga
River Trail and parts of the Bartram Trail, led by Brooks Franklin and caboosed
by Maureen Keating and Brenda Smith. The hike is along the ridges and banks of
the beautiful Wild and Scenic Chattooga River with some waterfalls thrown in for
good measure, including Big Bend Falls and the wild cascades leading to the
Rock Gorge area. Meet at 9:30am at the parking lot at the end of Warwoman Road
at the junction of Georgia Hwy 28. Limit of 15 hikers.
March 20:
Whiteside Cove to "Old Iron Bridge":
A 7-mile, moderate hike with some scrambling for
slippery rocks and ice patches along the Chattooga Cliffs, led by Joe
Gatins. Meet at "Old Iron Bridge" on
Bull Pen Road at 9:30 a.m. Shuttle to trailhead at Whiteside Cove parking
lot. Limit of 12 hikers.
March 27:
Ellicott Rock Wilderness: A 7-mile, moderate traverse through the Ellicott
Rock Wilderness from Bull Pen Road to Burrell's Ford, led by Joe Gatins. Meet on South Carolina side of Burrell's Ford
Bridge at 9:30 a.m. Limit of 10 hikers.
Bring: Lunch,
water, rain gear, walking staff if needed, and appropriate clothing and
footwear. Camera if desired. (Allergic to bees/wasps? Remember your
meds/epi-pen.)
