Georgia ForestWatch joins conservation leaders from across the country to support America's first annual Roadless Recreation Week, August 7th-15th, which will host more than 50 recreation activities across 15 states in national forest roadless areas. The weeklong celebration highlights the importance of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule, issued to protect nearly 60 million acres of pristine national forests across the country, and encourages the public to go "all out" to enjoy the unique outdoor opportunities these areas provide. This outing is the local highlight of the nationwide campaign to recognize the recreational, environmental and economic values that roadless areas provide.

Lori Martell PhotoBoth ForestWatch hikes are on the Bartram Trail and follow dense rhododendron and mountain laurel
thickets, to meet at the top of
Rabun Bald, the 2nd highest peak
in GA. We'll see a spectacular panorama of the Great Smoky Mountains to the north, the Nanthahalas to the northeast and
the Piedmont region of SC to the south and east. Poet Laurence Holden will then further inspire us
with new mountain-infused poetry.
