ForestWatch and the Mountain Conservation Trust of Georgia team up for this special hike to Songbird Wildlife Area!
We'll see examples of beaver meadows, dwarf oak forests, mis-managed forests, wild flowers, birds, and stunning panoramic views from the old Grassy Mountain fire tower. Georgia ForestWatch Forest Ecologist Darren Wolfgang will be guiding us through and interpreting the various habitats and forest communities we see on the hike as well as proving a general overview of forest management approaches over the last 40 years.
Date of Outing: Saturday, October 16, 2010Meeting Time, Place, and Directions:
Meet us at 9:00 am at the Georgia ForestWatch office, 15 Tower Rd. Ellijay GA, 30540. Come through the Ellijay Square (rotary), and follow SR 52 W towards Chatsworth, Ga. and Fort Mtn. State Park. The GFW headquarters (Tower Rd.) will be on your right, approximately 1 mile after the square, in a cream-colored house with green shutters.
